Raymond L. Sax

December 14, 1923 — November 27, 2022

Raymond Sax, 98, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital on Sunday November 27 after a brief illness. He was born and raised on the Northside of Syracuse where he graduated from Vocational High School. He then served in the Army Quarter Master Unit during WWII in the South Pacific. Upon returning he married his neighborhood sweetheart, Elizabeth (Betty) Schwartz and raised four children in Pitcher Hill. They were married 70 years up until Betty's passing in 2018. Ray was an artist and commercial artist by trade working for General Electric, Carrier Corporation, retiring from WTVH Channel 5 as Art Director. His pen and ink renditions of the 57 locks in the N.Y. Canal System are archived at the Erie Canal Museum. Ray was a Ham Radio operator with call letters WA2TKY + KC2XN. He enjoyed talking with others around the world. He enjoyed spending time with family fishing, golfing, watching hockey, and camping along the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario and the Coast of Maine. We were very fortunate to have you as our father for so long and know you are happy again with mom.

Ray is survived by his children, Ron (Janice), Mike (Lynda), Lorraine (Richard) Witthoeft, Marilyn (Michael) Miller; grandchildren, Lisa (William) Marlow, Shawn, Angela (Tom), Cody (Melissa) Tyler; great grandchildren, Tyler, Liam, Skymarie, Noah, Piper, Adalynn Marie; and also his sister-in-law Mary Seifritz; and many nieces, nephews, special neighbors, and friends.

There will be no services at this time. A burial service will be held in the spring at the Veteran's Cemetery.
