Raymond E. Snyder

Ray Snyder, 91, of Cicero, passed away Thursday at Birchwood Healthcare Facility. A graduate of Eastwood High School, he served as a United States Army officer in Europe and South Africa during WWII, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero and a member of the Holy Name Society, an usher, and a lector. He retired after 36 years as a manager for General Motors in Elyria, Ohio, and Syracuse, NY. He then worked in the offices of Assemblyman Michael J. Bragman for sixteen years. Ray was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling from his home on Oneida Lake. He was also passionate about playing cards with great friends and family. Ray was predeceased by his wife, Doris Cook Snyder, and his brother, Jack Armstrong.
He is survived by his children, Kurt (Nancy) Snyder, Libby (John) Thomas, Karl (Constance) Snyder, John (Teri) Snyder; Grandchildren, Matt (Noelle) Snyder, Amy (Don) Burnell, Carrie (Patrick) Ryder, Capt. James (Lt. JG, Alyson USN) Thomas USMC, Rachel A.K. Snyder, Kate (Dr. Bryant) Carruth, Daniel and Lauren Snyder; great grandson, Benjamin A. Snyder; cousin, Ethel Simmons; sister-in-law, Rita Armstrong; and several nieces and nephews.
Ray will be deeply missed by his family, dear friend Evelyn Minsterman, and everyone who gave him such loving care at Birchwood, and the VA Hematology and Oncology Department.
Service will be Tuesday, 10AM at Sacred Heart Church, Cicero. Burial will follow at Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay, NY. Calling Hours will be Monday from 4-7PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse.
