Philip S. Wicks

Philip S. Wicks, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, his favorite day of the week the Lords Day. He was born on March 9, 1921 in Syracuse and grew up in the "Colvin Crest" area of the city. He graduated from Nottingham High School. He joined the Army Air Corps. in 1942 and served in India and China with the 444th B-29 Bomb Group reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. Returning home, he went to work for Smith & Caffrey Steel. He was plant manager at the time of his retirement in 1984. He was an avid SU and Boston Red Sox Fan. He was a 40 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cazenovia, serving as both usher and deacon. He most enjoyed family gatherings and reunions held at the Wicks homestead.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, June, after 60 years of marriage and his brother Parke.
Surviving are his sons; Philip (Justine), Central Square, Douglas (Nancy), N. Syracuse, Charles (Mary), Liverpool, grandchildren; Kennie Wicks, Tammy Wicks, Kelly (Jeff) Brazeal, Philip Wicks, Doug (Karen) Wicks, Christine Dano, Kevin (Linda) Wicks, Patty (Jason) Spencer, Mary Catherine Wicks, 9 great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Many heartfelt thanks to the VA Hospital & Staff on the 6th Floor, and to the Staff & Friends at the Malta House, North Syracuse.
There are no calling hours. Burial will be private. Memorial service will be held on January 26, 2013, 11am at the First Presbyterian Church, Cazenovia, NY, with Rev. Steve Thomas officiating.
