Pauline H. Savage

October 4, 1926 — March 6, 2021

Pauline Savage, 94, passed away at Loretto while asleep in her recliner. Mom was born and raised in Syracuse by Frank and Josephine Basta and was the last survivor of six siblings.

She raised us three kids under very trying conditions and though there were many tears, there were many, many laughs too. She taught us the Golden Rule, to be kind and generous and to be empathetic. She always loved us and showed it and we loved her back, to bits.

She never sent a birthday card without a dollar in it and though she didn't smoke, she always carried a pack of cigarettes and matches for the for the "bums" she might see on our excursions "down city". She never went to a doctor's appointment without a pistachio cake for the staff. Mom never had any money because she gave it away to anyone who needed it.

Mom couldn't walk 20 feet without seeing someone she knew. We used to joke that when she dies she would have to have her funeral at MacArthur Stadium. She outlived that place by 25 years. When she worked at the stadium she would regale coworkers and patrons with her uncanny crow imitation.

Mom is predeceased by our father, Frederick A. Murray in 2002; her parents; sisters, Mary Grassi and Katherine D'Onofrio and brothers, Dominick and Eugene Basta and Michael Basto.

Mom is survived by her three kids, Kathy, David and Judy; three grandchildren, Harmony (Scott) Dunfield, Victoria Colozzi and Gaetano Colozzi Jr; six great grandchildren, Ben Murray, Scarlett Royston, Erin, Sam and Molly Dunfield and many nieces and nephews. We miss her already.

Graveside services are private.
