March 25, 2022, surrounded by love and holding her daughter's hand, Pamela J. Kopiel, 74, passed away peacefully at Crouse Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1947 in New Rochelle, NY and resided there until she married and moved to the Syracuse area in the late 1960's, where she worked and raised her family. She retired in 2011 after a lengthy successful career as an executive at Eagle Comtronics and later as a consultant for MACNY in Syracuse. She also owned and operated a B&B in Syracuse, known as The Dickenson House on James, for almost a decade, that served as a favorite for many Syracuse University families and community visitors.
Pamela loved to be active and involved, and loved her community. She spent many hours on various local boards including the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and Arc of Onondaga. She worked tirelessly for the JDRF of Upstate NY, as she herself was a juvenile diabetic. She was so proud to receive an award from the Joslin Diabetes Center for being a 50 year survivor.
During her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, shopping, watching her granddaughter grow and leisurely spending time watching sunsets, at her lakehouse, on Lake Ontario. She was a member of the Methodist church.
Pamela is survived by her daughter, Bonnie J. Koennecke (Hans) of Liverpool; granddaughter, Taylor M. Koennecke of Liverpool; and her partner of 10 years, David Hannig of Cazenovia.
Services will be private. Contributions may be made to JDRF at https://www.jdrf.org/upstateny/.
