Norma D. McCall, 85, of Liverpool, NY, passed away peacefully with her son, John, and daughter, Judy, by her side at Capstone Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Amsterdam, NY, on November 17, 2018, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Syracuse, NY on February 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Donati, originally of Ancona, Italy.
Mrs. McCall was a 1951 graduate of Cathedral Academy, and she was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Pompei Roman Catholic Church in Syracuse, where she served for many years as a captain of the Bereavement Group.
When she was a young woman, she worked for New York/Bell Telephone Company. In 1967 Norma took a position in the Liverpool Central School District as a school bus driver. She retired after more than 25 years of service with an excellent driving record.
She traveled with her church group on many international pilgrimages, including to Medjugorje, Lourdes, Portugal, and Rome, Italy where she saw Pope John Paul II in his "pope-mobile" at the Vatican. She also enjoyed vacationing with her children and grandchildren to Maine, Niagara Falls, and especially to Cape Cod.
Norma loved to laugh and had many great friends from childhood through retirement. She was known for her amazing eggplant parmesan and sauce and meatballs, which were always in high demand and enjoyed by all.
Although she was many things to many people, Norma was most proud of, and happy to be with, her family, and she felt her greatest enjoyment in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Norma married her beloved husband Donald M. McCall of Stedman, NC on May 22, 1954. He predeceased her in 1981 after 27 years of happiness together.
She is survived by four children, Donald M. McCall Jr. of Melbourne FL, Kathleen M. McCall of Melbourne FL, Judith (Richard) Santimaw of Liverpool, NY, and John (Mary) McCall of Gloversville, NY, as well as four grandchildren (Megan, Rebecca, Rick, and Amanda) and two great-granddaughters (Mia and Sophie).
In addition to her husband, Norma was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Gilberti and August "Gus" Donati.
Calling hours will be held from 9:00 – 11:00am Wednesday, November 21, 2018, followed immediately by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Pompei Church, 301 Ash Street, Syracuse, NY 13208.
Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery, 2401 Court Street, Syracuse, NY.
