Norma Helen Easterly Weegar passed peacefully on December 8, 2021 at her daughter's home surrounded by family. She was born on December 30, 1932 in Syracuse, NY to the late George and Alice(Egloff) Easterly. While growing up, she spent many fun summers at her family's camp on the south shore of Oneida Lake. She attended St. John the Baptist school, graduating as valedictorian. After high school, she worked for the city of Syracuse as a clerk in the traffic violations bureau. Norma had an entrepreneurial spirit, and channeled this into a number of businesses, including owning and operating Thee Diner in Cicero, NY for over a decade and The Birches Motel in Saratoga Springs, NY for many years with her husband, Bruce. When her children were young, she enjoyed tent camping and fireside singing in the Adirondacks with family and friends, and later, the luxuries of RV camping. She was an avid and skilled card player, and particularly enjoyed playing poker; at age 86, her poker skills shined as she won an entry into a Las Vegas poker tournament, flying there with family to participate. She was a loving and devoted mom who taught her daughters, by her example, the value of a good work ethic. She was so happy to be able to watch her grandchildren grow to adulthood and loved the many extended family gatherings held during the holidays. In her later years, her happiest times may have been just holding baby great-grandchildren.
She is survived by Bruce, her loving husband of 47 years; her daughters, Alice Barry (Robert Jones), of Oswego, Diana (John) Bome, of Navarino, and MaryAnne Barry (Paul Schmidt), of Allison Park, PA ; her stepdaughters, Bonnie (Miguel) Solis of Jacksonville, FL and Donna (Richard) Bardou, of Groveland, FL; her grandchildren, Jessica Laughlin, Moss Clark, Trevor Jones, Kyle Bome, Emily Bome, Bronwyn Jones, Shawn Jones, James Jones, Mary Espada, David Bardou, and Elle Hauschen; great-grandchildren Audrey, Oliver, Joshua, Jacob, Hudson, Lucas, Peyton, and Gabriel, and many nieces and nephews. Norma was predeceased by her siblings, her grandson, Woody Clark and great-grandson Isaac Jones.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, December 14th, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N Main St, North Syracuse NY 13212, from 4pm to 6pm, with a memorial service immediately following.
