Nancy (Squires) Martin passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 3, 2024. She was born on April 12, 1937 to Augustus and Louise Squires and was one of eight children
A dedicated mother, with a knack for details, she celebrated birthdays with homemade cakes, sewed costumes and clothes for special occasions, was an avid flower gardener, and worked tirelessly to maintain a pleasant home for her family.
Nancy enjoyed writing creatively in her spare time. There is no better way to honor her memory than by sharing a poem she wrote shortly after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
A poem by Nancy S. Martin- Written in July of 1988.
I Didn’t Waste This Day
If I can make one person smile
Or brush a tear away
No matter what life hands me
I didn’t waste this day!
If I can gain a child’s trust
Or ease somebody’s fear
Or listen to an old man talk
And let him know I hear
I’ll feel God’s love surround me
As I go on my way
And hear him say, Well done my child”
“You didn’t waste this day”
There are no earthly treasures
That ever can compare
To what the Lord gave me for free
The things that I can share
A smile, a hug, a caring heart
A friendship strong and true
Love’s very hard to give away
It comes right back to you
So if I share somebody’s dream
And show them that I care
The dreams that I have put away
Will once again be there
And when I go to bed tonight
I’ll close my eyes to pray
And know I shared the gift of love
I didn’t waste this day!
She was a Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend and Brave Warrior who will be missed by all who knew her.
