Myrtle "Mert" Gebo Elve, 86, of Cicero, passed away in hospice care on Thursday, March 22, 2013 in Syracuse. Mert was born in Potsdam, NY, the daughter of Iva and Lemuel Gebo. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles "Chuck" H. Elve Jr. in 1989. Mert lived the largest portion of her life in North Syracuse and on the shores of Oneida Lake. She was always optimistic with a sunny approach to life. Mert overcame many challenges and approached every day with a true spirit. Her life was surrounded by the love and support of her devoted husband and family, as well as by her dear companion of the last six years, Eugene "Gene" Pelletier.
Mert is survived by her children: Charles "Charlie" H. Elve and wife Melissa McElroy-Elve of Cicero; Denise Crobar and husband Floyd of Cicero; and Pamela Potter and husband Kenneth of Brewerton, NY. Also surviving are her three grandchildren Kyle, Jaclyn, and Kaitlyn, and her two sisters Mary Paul and Marjorie Gushlaw of Potsdam, NY.
A private memorial is planned. Contributions may be made in Mert's name to Hospice of CNY or Young at Heart Cicero Senior Center.
