Myrtie L. Wilkos, 91, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully February 24, 2022. Myrtie was born in Clyde, New York on February 22, 1931 to the late Harold and Jennie Burt. She served in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) as a cryptographer during the Korean War. Myrtie retired from the United States Post Office. Myrtie lead a very active life always smiling and up for any new adventure that would come her way. Myrtie was the matriarch of the family, always welcoming family and friends to her home "Merts Motel". She loved attending the St Patrick's Day parade for her annual shot of green beer. Myrtie loved volunteering for the ELKS lodge Women's Auxiliary #2348, elector for the board of elections, D.A.R.E program and St. Joseph's seniors group. She was honored as the 2017 ELKS Mother of the Year. Myrtie was picked to participate in the 2019 Syracuse Honor Flight to Washington DC. This was one of the highlights of her life!
She was predeceased by Her husband of 57 years, Frank "Red" Wilkos; and her siblings, Carol, Junior and Genie.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Michael) O'Connor; three sons, James (Tammi) Wilkos, Thomas (Cindi) Wilkos, and Christopher (Erin) Wilkos; grandchildren, Matthew (Abigail), Jennifer (Scott), Kaitlin (Rex), Brandon (Jill), Brittnee, Andrew, Nate and Emma. great grandchildren, Reece, Nora, Mason, Madison, and Myrtie Jeanne. Also survived by sister-in-law, Nancy, cousins, Rosemarie, Annette, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Calling hours will be Fri, Mar. 4 from 4-7pm at New Comer, North Syracuse. A funeral mass will take place, Saturday, 9:30am at St. Joseph's The Worker Church, Liverpool, NY. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elk's Lodge #2348, 3730 Cold Springs Rd, Liverpool, NY 13027, and the Make A Wish Foundation.
