Morris P. Baker, 87, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, August 17, 2019.
Morris was a Korean War veteran, serving in the Army from 1949 to 1953. He was an avid NASCAR fan; even driving his own car #99 on dirt track in Utica-Rome as "Soupy Baker" and welded cars for local drivers. He enjoyed watching boxing, fishing, going on cruises, playing cards (especially counting them), and traveling. He will always be remembered for his joking nature, his smile, his boisterous laugh, his ability to fix it all and sell it all – a genuine peddler.
Surviving are his loving wife of 40 years, Cynthia Laswell; his children, Robert, Walter, Joey, Morris (Lil Mo), Cindy, Tina, Ricky, Roberta, Morris (Jimbo), Charles, Jesse, and John; his sisters, Joyce and Jessie; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Jessie; his children, Elizabeth Blanchard, June and Richard Baker; and his siblings, Riley, Donald, Bill, Harold, Floyd, Shirley, and Sonny.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. A service and military honors will immediately follow the calling hours.
