Mildred A. Cunningham
September 10, 2013
Mildred A. Cunningham, 91, moved forward from this life on Tuesday, September 10, 2013. Born in Syracuse, New York to William and Julia Ayres, she was a graduate of Syracuse Central High School and Powelson Business Institute.
She married the love of her life Richard D. Cunningham on April 3, 1943, and they spent part of the next 24 years collaborating in business together at RD Cunningham Distributing. They also collaborated on 4 children, and her family became her passion. In 1967, she lost her husband to a drunk driver. She was thrust into the role of sole provider and single parent for her children, in addition to caring for her mother Julia for over 40 years.
She worked for Gaylord Brothers in Liverpool for many years, and retired in 1990. When her children had children of their own, she was always there to provide love, care and support. She enjoyed dancing in her early years, gardening and reading in her later years, and her family in all of her years.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard in 1967 and by her son Gary in 2006.
Surviving are her daughter Laurie Furgal (Stan), and sons Richard (Ermine) and Terry (Suzanne); daughter-in-law Karen Kennette; grandchildren Brian Furgal, Matthew and Molly Cunningham, Emily Cunningham, and Travis and Jamie Cunningham, along with several nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
Contributions in Mil's name may go to Mothers Against Drunk Driving or the American Cancer Society.
In addition, to truly honor her memory, take advantage of every opportunity to hug your children and let them know how much you love them. That was the focus of her life, and her family will be forever influenced and fulfilled by her love as a result.
