Michael J. Wyak, Jr., 87, of Pennellville, NY, passed away on Thursday. Born in Binghamton, NY on November 5, 1929 to the late Michael and Anna Wyak, Sr., he graduated from Johnson City High School and attended Delhi University. Michael retired as a Master Sergeant after 30 years of service in the National Guard Reserve Photographer in Chief, Fort Drum, NY. He was National Guardsmen of the year in 1959. Michael was a design engineer sub-contractor for Kodak, Carrier and several companies in the auto industry and retired from General Electric. Inspired by his late granddaughter's love for writing he chose to follow his passion for American Military History and was currently writing a book detailing Civil War Generals in the United States.
Michael was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Nancy J. (Merrick) Wyak and his granddaughter, Kristen Wyak Norris.
He is survived by his children, Maria (Paul Ballestrasse) Wyak of San Francisco, Anne (Richard) Norris of Reno, NV, Michelle (David) Machen of Medford, OR, Mary (Andrew) Johnson of Baltimore, MD, Michael (Roxanne) Wyak III of Reno, NV and Maureen Wyak of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Duncan (Jessica) Machen and Alex Johnson; great-granddaughter, Vivian Machen; brother, Paul (Nanette) Wyak of Horseheads, NY; former wife, Margaret (Pidlypchak) Wyak of Las Vegas and several nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be Tuesday, May 2nd 10-11AM at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse with a service to follow at 11AM.
Interment and memorial service will be held at a later date.
