Michael W. Almy

Michael W. Almy, 55, of East Syracuse, formally from Harpursville and Chenango Bridge, died in an automobile accident. He is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Elizabeth, and his sister, Helen. He will be greatly missed by his son, Nicholas M, Almy, Binghamton; his fiancée, Victoria Earnshaw, East Syracuse; his sister, Mary E. Coté, Newark, DE; and his brothers, David L. Almy, Hopkinton, MA, and Thomas J. Almy, Leesburg, FL.
Michael was working with MBM Business Systems when he died in a tragic accident in the NY Thruway. He grew up in Harpursville, where he graduated from high school. During high school, he was very active in Boy Scouts, attending the National Boy Scout Jamboree, was a member of the Order of the Arrow, and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Michael remained involved in the Boy Scouts, helping many boys build character, learn responsible citizenship, and develop good fitness. Later when he son, Nick, also became an Eagle Scout, Michael's brother Dave awarded him a Golden Boot and the title of the first honorary member of the "Golden Boot" for his efforts in helping his son achieve this title. After high school, he served in the Air Force for four years. Throughout his life, Michael loved camping, reading, aerodynamics, and history. He especially enjoyed being with family. He was a strong Catholic and active in his church, St. Matthew's. It was in this church that he and Torrie were to be married on October 9, 2010.
Family and friends may call at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street, North Syracuse, NY, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 4. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Matthew's Church, 229 W. Yates Street, East Syracuse, NY, at 9 a.m. Burial will take place on Wednesday at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY.
