Michael J. Stassi, 47, of Brewerton, passed away at Crouse Hospital December 19, 2021, with his loving family by his side.
Michael was born in Syracuse, New York on April 12, 1974 to Roy and JoAnn Stassi.
Michael devoted his entire professional career serving the public in Police, Fire and EMS. He was a decorated Police Officer and Fire Fighter who earned several meritorious and life-saving awards.
He graduated from the Syracuse Police Academy in 1998. Michael retired from the North Syracuse Police Department in 2010 as a Police Detective. Previous to then, he worked as a Police Officer at the Jordan Police Department, Public Safety Dispatcher at 911 and Medic with Eastern/Rural Metro Ambulance.
He served as a volunteer firefighter with the Brewerton Fire Department for over 30 years, with two years serving as Fire Chief and several years on the Public Safety Dive Team. Michael was a past Director of the Brewerton Ambulance. Most recently he was elected to serve as the Brewerton Fire District Commissioner and was on the Board of Trustees for the Brewerton Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance.
Michael was a devoted and loving father to his six-year-old son. He enjoyed listening to music, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by Father, Roy Stassi.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Shanna Stassi, Son, Tanner Stassi; Mother, JoAnn (Owen Hanavan) Stassi; Brother, Shawn (Stacey) Stassi; Sister, Amber Stassi; Four Nephews, Anthony Auringer, Damon Pugh, Tyler Stassi, Connor Stassi; Niece, Elizabeth Bridenbaker; several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues, all whom will greatly miss him.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 4-8 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, N. Syracuse. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
