Michael K. Frey

August 4, 1959 — March 5, 2025

Michael K. Frey of Nedrow, NY passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2025 after a short battle with cancer with his wife and children by his side.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Angela (DeCarlo) Frey and his children, Jared M. Frey and Abigail M. Frey. He is also survived by his mother, Carol Frey, and his mother-in law, Doris DeCarlo, as well as his brother, David (Wanda) Frey and sister Karyl (Jeff) Sargent, brother-in-law Nicholas (Melanie) DeCarlo, brother-in-law James Taylor, aunt Pat Shepard, and his uncle, Pastor Dick (Rosalie) Shepard. Mike is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Tierra (Lance) Glover, Angelina Frey, Thomas Sargent, Christopher (Allison) Sargent, Nicole (DeShawnte) Waller, Zachary Taylor, Gage Larabee, Chase Larabee, Nicholas DeCarlo, Alaina (Tyler) Canfield, Samantha DeCarlo and Sarina DeCarlo as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews and many cousins both near and far.

He is also survived by his Naval buddy and former shipmate Gig Spahn who brought a lot of great memories, fun, and laughter into Mike’s life. He was predeceased by father, Matthias Frey,  father-in-law, Nicholas DeCarlo,  sister-in-law, Carol Taylor,  uncle David Shepard, and aunt and uncle, Barbara and Frederick Edwards.

Mike was a graduate of Cicero High School and held an associate degree from Morrisville College. He was a US Navy Retired Veteran having served on the USS Canopus and the USS Acadia. Between active duty, activated duty, and reserve time he served 23 ½ years, something he was very proud of. He was a fourth generation pattern maker.

Mike worked for Jardine Foundry and later Meloon Foundry for 39 years. He was a Production Supervisor and general guy Friday. There was nothing he couldn’t fix with some chewing gum and a paper clip though he never was any good at retrieving his voicemail.

As a child, Mike helped out on his parent’s homestead farm raising goats, chickens, and cattle at various times. He got into all kinds of mischief with his brother, Dave and childhood friend, Scott Naylor growing up at home, when they were part of the 4H club, and while showing goats at the NYS Fair as teenagers.

He volunteered his time with Lions Club serving in any and all capacities they ever needed him to. He also volunteered his time with the Camden Food Pantry, Cluster 13, and any and all activities regarding fundraising, band, sports, and drama department for his kids at Onondaga Central. He was a vestry member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Camden NY close to where his camp was located. He loved nothing more than being up there in the woods, working on his various projects and hobbies.

Mike was a blaring Motel Vacancy sign on the Cat Distribution Highway as he was always feeding and taking care of one stray or another - much to the distress of his wife who does love cats but not that much. He is survived by his current cats, Skitter and CK (aka Camp Kitty) who already miss him.

Donations may be made to the Cat Coalition or your favorite cat rescue group.

No calling hours will be held and a memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Camden at a later date. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on March 22, 2025 at Peaceful Schools, located at 161 Intrepid Lane, Syracuse, NY 13205 from 1 pm to 5pm.
