Michael E. Easterly, 79, of Syracuse passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family. Born and raised in Syracuse, he graduated from North High School and attended SU. He was predeceased by his parents, George (Hank) and Helen Easterly.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He retired from S.U.C.F. after many years as a building inspector. Mike was an Army and National Guard Veteran, serving from 1964-1975. He also was a volunteer fireman with the Liverpool F.D. from 1971-1991. Mike was an avid sports enthusiast which included NASCAR, horse racing, golf, and especially all and everything "SU".
He loved going to the grandchildren's activities of baseball, football, softball, dance, bowling, karate and just being with them all. He enjoyed his later years being with family, friends, breakfasts at Denny's, playing cards, and some side trips to the casino.
Surviving are his wife Helene of 56 years; daughter Laurie (Bob) Lindley, sons Mick (Angela) Easterly and Dan Easterly; brothers Robert (Lucy Sandberg) Easterly and Richard (Mary) Easterly; 8 grandchildren: Nicole (Kyano) Cummings, Brittney Lindley, Heather Easterly, Brandi Easterly, Joey (Kaylee) Easterly, Abigail Easterly, Tommy Sherlock, Rhiannon (Ricky) Needham. Also three great-grandchildren: Naomi Sherlock, Wyatt and Elena Easterly. Mike is also survived by his cousin Diane (John) Riley, several nieces and nephews, and countless family and friends.
"Dear Heavenly Father, we praise and thank you for all your goodness and having Mike in all our lives." Calling hours are 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 7th at Newcomer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main Street, N. Syracuse, NY 13212 with a prayer service immediately following.
