Metro Domingo, age 93, of Baldwinsville, passed peacefully to his eternal home on Wednesday, April 6, 2022. Originally from Heilwood, Pennsylvania, Metro resided in Baldwinsville since 2005 with his devoted wife of 66 years, Catherine "Kitty" (Deskevich) Domingo. He was predeceased by twelve brothers and sisters, who would likely credit his longevity to an endearing mix of his tenacity, loyalty, and diligence. Metro is survived by his wife, Catherine, as well as his three children, Bonnie (Rob) Esposito of Brewerton, Charles (Laura) Domingo of Central Square, and Mary Domingo of Baldwinsville. He left behind pieces of his legacy with his three grandchildren, Amy (Roy) Trumble, Kelly Esposito, and Charles Metro (Kelly) Domingo, as well as his two great grandchildren, Micah Robert Trumble and Izabella Lynn Domingo.
Son of Charles and Anna (Mihalatchko) Domingo, Metro was born on November 7, 1928 in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. He grew up surrounded by family and farming, and developed an early love for gardening, hunting, and fishing. Metro was a protective brother and a loyal friend and classmate. He graduated high school in 1946 and later graduated from electrical trade school. He served in the US Army from 1951-1952 and was honorably discharged from his service. While serving in the army, he learned to be a barber and enjoyed sharing this talent throughout his life. Metro and Kitty, who he lovingly referred to as "mom," were married in 1954 in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania, and moved to Fallsburg, New York (Sullivan County) in 1955. They raised their family in Fallsburg, where Metro worked as a journeyman electrician in the IBEW Union for over 40 years.
Throughout his life, Metro was known for his inquisitive and eager disposition. He was a dedicated horse trainer for over a decade, stemming from his avid love for animals. Metro was at home in the garden and in nature, and any seed or stick he planted was surely bound to grow. Known for his apple trees and honey bees, Metro prided himself on his self-taught knowledge and experience with both. He loved to read and learn, and was always sure to send his kids and grandkids home with a good magazine article or book. His meticulousness was expressed in the art of fly tying, and he never missed an opportunity to bring home fresh trout from Old Falls. There was always room for "coffee and cake" and retelling stories about his younger years, friends he met along the way, and his hunches about the weather. Ever a contrarian and a truth-teller, Metro was beloved for his ability to bring joy and a good debate to any situation. He is deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
Calling hours to honor and remember Metro will be held at St. Luke's Ukrainian Orthodox Church (3290 Warners Road, Warners, New York) on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Funeral and cemetery services will immediately follow at the church. Flowers may be sent to St. Luke's and donations may be made on behalf of Metro to Hospice of Central New York.
