Meryl Celia Schartau
February 9, 1926 - August 2, 2021
Meryl, daughter of Helen and Harold Wood, was born on February 9, 1926 in Cortland, NY. Meryl was a graduate of Cortland High School and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years.
After High School, Meryl worked for the telephone company before starting a family. Later on, she worked for the North Syracuse School District as a Elementary School Cafeteria Worker into her 70s. She had such a joy cooking for and feeding children.
Meryl loved to bake (she had a cookie shape for every holiday), go for walks in her neighborhood (their house was the second house built in the entire neighborhood), watch her favorite shows (Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelorette, anything with Guy "Gus" Fieri, figure skating, NASCAR racing, and all the soap operas), talk on the phone with her best friends and family, spend time cuddling with the family cats (even though she wasn't a "cat-person"), write in her daily journal (everything from the weather that day to what happened on her favorite show plus everything in between), and spend time with her loving family.
Meryl Schartau is survived by her brother, Raymond (Patricia) Wood; daughters, Ruth Schartau, Carol Moth, and Jane (Mark) Ridgeway; sons, Paul Schartau and Mark (Colleen) Schartau; 11 grandchildren and 6+ great grandchildren. She is preceded by her husband of 58 years, Warren Richard Schartau (2007); her sisters Barbara (Chet) Krajewski, Patricia (Edward) Harrison, and brother, Bill Wood.
Meryl was so loved by her family and friends. We will miss her sweet smile every day. Go in peace, at last.
