Merton D. Kimpland, 91, of Clay, passed away January 22, 2022.
Merton was born in North Syracuse, New York on February 2, 1930 to the late Jay and Bessie Kimpland, the third of six children.
He was married to Jane Mae Gratzer for 60 years.
He served in the U.S Army during the Korean War in Austria. He worked for the Carrier Corporation for 28 years. He was a member of the Andrew's Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, President of the United Methodist Men, a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years, and was presently a member of the Pennellville United Methodist Church.
Merton was a scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop's 157 and 167 for 20 years. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. He was very involved in Taft Road Little League as secretary and manager. He was also a literacy volunteer, a part of the Alzheimer's Support Group for Care Givers, and an avid coin collector. He was also honored with the Bishop Curley Assembly #3717 "Today's Patriot Award".
He was predeceased by his first wife Jane; and a granddaughter, Michelle.
He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Diane Kimpland; half-sister, Liz (TX); two sons, Mark (Lynne) Kimpland, M. Randy (Lola) Kimpland; two daughters, Susan (Timothy) Daugard, Sharon (James) Daugard; grandchildren, John, Christopher, Matthew, David, Lacey, Melissa; and great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Brody, Grady, Bennett, Emma, and Avery.
A calling hour and service will take place Friday, January 28, 2022, from 10:00am - 11:00am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals North Syracuse with a service at 11:00am.
