Melissa Jean Downey, 48, of Syracuse, passed away on Friday, July 7 at Upstate University Hospital. She was born in Syracuse on November 4, 1974 to Michael W. Downey and Barbara Lynn (Schmitz) Downey.
She was a long-time employee of Syracuse Ophthalmologic Consultants where she made many friends over the years. Melissa loved spending time with her family and playing with her bird, "Kitty Cat". She had an infectious laugh that made everyone want to smile along with her.
Melissa was predeceased by her mother, Barbara and her sister, Michelle Downey.
She is survived by her long-time, loving partner, Cecil Jacques; daughters, Hope Downey and Alyssa Downey; father, Michael (Candy); brothers, Michael, Jr. (Lindsey), Matt (Eugenia), Ben (Dani) and Brian; sister, Deanna; niece, Chloe; nephews, Jeffrey, Mikey III, Marcus, Mateo and Lorenzo; stepmother, Sheila; and several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
In keeping with Melissa's request, services will be private. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
