Meg P. Dunn

April 11, 1949 — December 10, 2023

Meg Elaine Pearson Dunn, RN, of Palermo, NY died on 12/10/2023 at the age of 74. Meg was born April 11, 1949 in Auburn NY daughter of the late James and Margaret Pearson. She moved to and grew up in Gouverneur NY, and then attended and graduated from Keuka College in 1971 with a degree in nursing. Driven by her passion for helping others, Meg worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 40 years. Although she was a diminutive woman at just under five feet tall, Meg never let her small frame prevent her from making a large impact on someone's life. For instance, during the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the late 1980's, Meg was pivotally involved with the launch of the AIDS Community Resources program in Oswego County. The love and care she had for people and the nursing profession was also evident to the many nursing students she taught as part of the Oswego County Boces program, making her a memorable part of the local nursing community. Throughout her life Meg was approached on a regular basis by persons for whom she had cared or taught, all of whom expressed extreme gratitude for her actions and her heart.

Meg was introduced to Thomas Dunn at a party in Syracuse, NY in the early 1970's and the two were married in 1976. They raised their family in Palermo NY, where they lived until Tom passed away in 2010. During that time they had their two daughters, along with an array of cats, dogs, hamsters, turtles, birds and more. Their life at home was happy, joyful, and filled with love and laughter. Meg was always a strong matriarch for the Dunn family. She never failed to remember a birthday or key date, or to reach out to check on others. She worked hard to keep family and friend networks together. And she never met a dessert or Nicolas Cage movie she didn't like.

Meg's core characteristic was kindness, and it is one of many things for which she will always be remembered. She was driven by a desire to help and to make other people's lives better, and she did so selflessly and repeatedly in both her personal and professional life. Her small stature was bursting with spirit and wit, and was loved by everyone she met. She was-in her own words-"a tough old bird" who was fiercely independent, and could never be convinced not to put the needs of others before her own. She made the world and especially her family's world, a better place to be. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Dunn, and her 2 brothers, Hugh and Craig Pearson.
She is survived by her daughters Kelly Dunn of Annapolis Maryland (Geoff Hance), Gillian Dunn of Liverpool, NY and her treasured grandson, Cole Hance, along with nieces, nephews and friends.
