Matthew Schirber

Matthew Schirber, 92, of N. Syracuse passed away peacefully at his home with loved ones. He was born in Solvay and was a graduate of Solvay High. During WW II he served in the Army-Air Force as a radio mechanic at Stowe, VT. Matthew's unit would sometimes receive food supplies from the VonTrappp's of the Sound of Music Fame.
He worked at Easy Washer for 17 years and then worked for 3 years for the US Postal Service. He also retired from Carrier Corp. after 25 years. Matthew was a good hearted person and enjoyed his church friends and the activities that they shared together.
Surviving are his beloved wife Lillian Schirber of over 60 years, daughter Debbie (Bill) Nester, 3 nephews; David, Edward & Ricky Fields.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5-6pm at the North Syracuse Baptist Church, S. Main St., with a service at 6pm.
