Maryann (Perretta) Raemsch, 76, passed away on Friday, September 24th. She was raised in Canton, NY and graduated from Canton Central School in 1962. Maryann graduated from college as a Registered Nurse and was employed by Upstate Medical Center for 25 years and then later the VA Medical Center for 15 years. Over the course of her career, she was able to be a part of numerous medical advances, including being a member of the Upstate's surgical team that performed the hospital's first open heart surgeries.
An adventurous spirit, Maryann loved to travel, particularly with close friends, and she journeyed around the world and across the United States. She cherished her friendships, made new friends easily, could talk for hours and loved to laugh. Baking and cooking were other passions, and she was known for her Christmas cookies and holiday parties. Gardening, quilting, knitting and needlepoint were other hobbies, skilled crafts that she learned from her mother.
Maryann was predeceased by her parents, Fannie and Rocco Perretta, whose Italian-American heritage she highly valued and continued through such traditions as her cooking and in keeping connections with family.
She is survived by her brother, John Victor (Ethel Gilbert) Perretta, Sr.; nephews, John, Jr. (Becky Sernett) and Jason (Kristie) Perretta; niece, Kathy (Mike Turfuri) Bradish and many great-nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 9th 1-3 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals with a service to follow at 3 PM. Maryann loved her cats, and so in lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the SPCA.
