Mary Ann Reed

Mary Ann Emma Locke Reed, age 84, passed away most peacefully on Sunday in Clearwater, FL. Born in 1927 to the late Neville and Gertrude Locke in Buffalo, NY, she attended Sacred Heart Academy where she was an active sorority sister and Buffalo State Teachers College. Mary Ann taught at Buffalo public schools, but was most passionate while teaching at St. Ann's Elementary in Syracuse. Singing, dancing, golfing, bowling, playing cards, and bingo were among her favorite pastimes.
She was a member of Sweet Adelines for many years, and continued performing with friends during her retirement years in Clearwater. A woman of great faith, she served Our Lord daily through prayer, service, kindness and charity. She touched the lives of countless souls with her humor, grace, and optimism.
She is predeceased by her husband, John C. Reed, with whom she shared life and love for 56 years. Surviving are her children, Barbara (Philip) Merrill of Syracuse; John (Hope) Reed of Arlington, VA; Pamela (Patrick) De Ridder of Richmond, VA; Victoria (Michael) Flanders of Syracuse; Thea (D'Arcy) Lewis of Solvay; Patricia (William) Bochicchio of Warsaw, NY; and Melissa (Patrick) Mooney of Syracuse; and 27 beautiful grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 pm on Friday at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street (Route 11), North Syracuse. Services will be at 11 am on Saturday at St. Ann's Church, 4465 Onondaga Blvd., Syracuse.
