Marvin ("Marv") E. Hahn, 95, of Cicero, passed away at home on Monday. Marv was the beloved patriarch of daughters Diane Thurber (Mike), Gail Lovering (Cal), Tracy Ellen Kubek (David) and Heidi Aserian (Klaus); stepson Bobb Bewley (Karen), eight grandchildren, eight great-grand children and one great-great grandchild. Marv was pre-deceased by his wife, Joan Elin (Patterson), brothers Sherman and Robert Hahn, sisters Evelyn Ritter and Anne Gist, grand-daughter Amanda Baart and step-children Christine Deacons and Richard Bewley. Marv was born in Bowmanstown, PA to Norman and Irene (Noll) Hahn.
Marvin was drafted into the US Army Air Corps and proudly served from 1946 to 1949 as Sergeant at the Fürstenfeldbruck Air Base in West Germany where he programmed flight codes daily in the war aircrafts. He received his Electrical Engineering degree from Lehigh University, was in the Army ROTC at Lehigh and commissioned as Second Lieutenant, and worked for General Electric, first in Utica then in Syracuse in the Heavy Military Electronics Department, designing and testing HIPAR radar, installing radar overseas, retiring in April 1991.
Marv was a longtime active member of the Syracuse Elfun Society, where he tirelessly led volunteer community service and construction projects at various local non-profit organizations. He also volunteered for Hope for Bereaved for many years, maintaining the electrical system and memorial benches at the Butterfly Garden of Hope in Liverpool. When not at work or volunteering, Marv was an avid bowler and member of two bowling leagues until he was 93. He was known for his thriving bed of family heirloom daffodils and his love for all things chocolate. Marv loved going to family reunions, birthdays, holiday celebrations, and his weekly lunch with friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 15th , from 1-4pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. A celebration of life will be held at 4pm at the funeral home.
