On Friday, August 2, 2019 Mark S. Olender, loving father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly at the age of 61 in Rome, NY.
Mark was born May 23, 1958 at St. Lukes Hospital in New Hartford, NY to Louis and Shirley (Dauer) Olender. He attended Ithaca Senior High School.
Mark Olender was a great ball-buster with an even greater heart. He was an avid champion of the underdog and was devoted to making sure his loved ones were taken care of. He worked tirelessly for over 40 years in the construction industry. He took great pride in his sons Marky and Luke and stepson David. His favorite role to date, however, was that of Grandpa to Maddie and Jack. He loved them fiercely and brought great joy to each others lives.
To say he will be missed would be an incredible understatement. He had a larger than life personality. Mark had a fine appreciation for women, cars and Bob Seger. Friends and family will certainly long for his wicked sense of humor, his delicious bbq's, his warmth, strength and advice. He was often seen at Flo's diner and made many special friendships there.
Mark is survived by his mother Shirley Olender (Washington), sons Mark L. and Luke Olender (Camden, NY); stepson David Pizon (Rome, NY); a special "daughter" Danielle Doherty and grandchildren Madelynne and Jackson Pizon (Oneida, NY); brothers Rich Olender (Laura) Washington, Michael Olender (Alaska), and Steven Olender (Marybeth) Whitesboro, NY; a sister Karen Olender Zurcher (Leonard) Missouri. He had many beloved neices and nephews. He will also be missed by a very dear best friend Patricia McNitt (Cicero, NY.)
Mark was predeceased by his father Louis Olender, brothers Kevin Olender and Doug (MIHWA Lee) Olender of Summit, Missouri.
In honor of Mark, friends and family are gathering in memorium on Friday, August 9th at Verona Beach State Park from 5:00-9:00pm. Please join us for music, bbq and remebering good times to celebrate this great man.
