Marilyn Guiles

1936 — 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn on February 27 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was a cherished member of our community, known for her kindness, generosity, fierce and unwavering love for her family.

Marilyn was born on July 16, 1936, in Syracuse, New York. She grew up in East Syracuse and graduated from East Syracuse High School, where she was best known for her driving skills.

She worked hard during her teenage years and was one of the few young women who owned her own car. And was deemed hotrod Abbey. She loved to drive, and it was the most difficult thing to give up. She loved to roller skate in her youth and spent time with her friends, Roller skating is also where she met the love of her life, David Guiles. Where she told her mother, "I will marry him some day!" Several years after that meeting, they did in fact get married. Marilyn and David were Married on February 18, 1955. They moved to California, where they lived for several years and had their first child. She loved California and the ocean. They decided to move back home to NY when she was pregnant with their second child to be closer to family; they (she) lived on Button Rd. for over 50 years. There she raised her family, which was her most important job but also during her time here in NY, she worked for Syracuse China and worked for many families as a housekeeper until she retired in 2009.

Her loving sister Yvonne (Gordon) Pollock, as well as nieces and nephews. She was a devoted wife and mother whose love and support were her family's foundation. Preceded in death were her parents, Howard Abbey and Leta (Ned) Wakeman, her sister Roberta (Hank) Davis, her loving husband, David Guiles, and her oldest daughter, Vicky Lester.
