Marijean W. Ackerson, 96, died Tuesday morning at Cunningham Nursing and Rehab Center in Syracuse where she lived for the last 7 weeks.
Marijean, daughter of Charles and Katharine Wagner, was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan October 31, 1919. She lived in Jackson, Michigan until moving to the North Syracuse area in 1962.

Marijean graduated from Stephens College in Missouri and National College of Education in Illinois. After teaching in Grand Rapids, Michigan she married Alfred Ackerson in 1943.

She was a member of Andrews Memorial Methodist Church in North Syracuse where she served in many capacities including President of the Women's Society, chair of her circle and youth advisor. In recent years she was an active volunteer at the Adult Respite Program and the Cradle and Beyond clothing store at the church.

Marijean and her husband were also foster parents to more than 40 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred in 1989 and a granddaughter Samantha in 1997.

Survivors include her children, Bonnie (William) Siiss of Amsterdam, Charles of Bridgeport, Anne Marie (Bruce) Fina of Constantia, Katharine (John) Bliss of Rochester, Paul (Tracy Coleman) of Rome, Elizabeth (William) Miller of Chittenango, Mark of North Syracuse, Ruth of Syracuse, Joyce Chapman of Cicero, Rochelle (Terry) Davis of Constantia; 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Patricia Ackerson in Illinois and Marie Ackerson in North Carolina and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hour will be Saturday from 12-1PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. Memorial Service will follow at 1PM. Burial is in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PACE CNY, or Andrews Methodist Church.
