Marie E. Huntley (DeCoste), 83 (but always 19), of Sumterville, FL, passed away unexpectedly on October 17, 2024.
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Robert, after 47 years of marriage in 2009.
She is survived by her three daughters, Michelle (Earl Rudy) of Phoenix, NY, Vicki (Brian Powell) of Syracuse, NY, and Pamela (Garry Schwartz) of Kannapolis, NC. She is also survived by ten loving grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and her sister, Dolores Monroe of Vermont.
Born in Malone, NY, she grew up in Syracuse, attended St. John the Baptist School, and graduated from Central Tech High School. Marie was a bank manager and eventually retired from the Post Office. She was an active member of St. Stephen’s Altar Rosary Society in Phoenix, NY, and then St. Rose of Lima for many years.
To care for their family, she moved to Florida, where she attended St. Augustine's and spent many years attending and volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. A strong, independent woman, Marie enjoyed many adventures with friends and senior citizen crews. She loved her family more than anything, and her strong Roman Catholic faith was apparent to all who knew her.
As an extremely devoted fan of the NY Yankees, NY Giants, and Syracuse sports, Marie took great pride in raising her grandchildren to appreciate these teams and knew every stat. She was a competitive game player and loved every minute of playing cards, dice, and board games with the grandkids (keeping them on their toes by making up her own rules).
Marie had a huge heart and took great joy in living every day after her morning DD coffee. She loved reading, listening to Perry Como, helping others and making them smile, wearing bright colors, and creating adventure if it was missing.
She will be greatly missed.
