Marie Abbott

Marie Abbott, 95, of North Syracuse, passed away Monday at Upstate University Hospital, with family members at her bedside. Marie was born on January 31, 1915, in Rochester, NY. At the age of 4, she and her one year old sister were taken by their father to Louisville, KY. At the age of 33, she moved to Buffalo, NY with her two sons to be reunited with her mother. In 1953, She married Vernon Abbott of Fabius and started a business, Abbott's Plumbing & Heating. From the mid 1960's until retirement in the mid 1990's, they operated service stations, then an auto repair business, Abbott's Garage in Manlius and later in Sherburne. Marie worked as the bookkeeper for these businesses. Following a stroke in 2007, Marie lived in Greenpoint in Liverpool. She tired of life in assisted living in two different senior apartments. Displaying a spirited desire for independence, which motivated her throughout life, she bought a house in North Syracuse at the age of 95. Marie was passionate about antiquing and filled her house with antique furniture and collectables. She also enjoyed bird watching and was an avid reader. Marie was a volunteer at the VA Hospital. She is predeceased by her first husband, Albert Hill of Louisville, KY; second husband, Vernon Abbott of Fabius; and sister, Grace Lawson of Louisville, KY.
She is survived by sons, Joseph (Jane) Hill of Baldwinsville, David (Linda) Hill of North Syracuse; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
In keeping with Marie's wishes, services will be private and there will be no calling hours.
