Margaret H. Farley

May 13, 1925 — August 5, 2018

Margaret H. Farley, age 93, died peacefully on August 5, 2018. She was born on May 13, 1925 in Syracuse, New York to Leonard and Margaret (Mahar) Farley. Peggy graduated from Nottingham High School in 1943 and Syracuse University in 1947. She was a member of Theta Phi Alpha sorority and became the alumnae president. Peggy received a Master's Degree in Education from Syracuse University and became a reading teacher at Split Rock and Lafayette schools. Later in life, she enjoyed her time tutoring at the Learning Place. In addition, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional society for women educators and the Syracuse City Women's Club.

Peggy was an avid reader, frequently reading an array of books and keeping up on current events as she burned the midnight oil. She was known for her great memory, knowledge, and love for traveling, especially to cherished venues like Jekyll Island, Georgia and Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Peggy was curious and talkative. She savored sharing slow meals or a cup of tea with loved ones, asking great questions and offering detailed stories of places she had been. Peggy enjoyed skiing, golfing, swimming, and playing croquet. She was a dog lover and her poodle, Charlie, was a treasured companion for 12 years. Although she was a proud member of the Syracuse Obedience Training, Charlie seemed to have mixed feelings about this placement.

Survivors include cousins, Dianne Haralson, her children; Farley and Peyton Haralson, Norman Madore and his son, JT Madore, Brian Trammell, Toni Pappas and William Pappas; brother-in-law, James Tom, Jr.; nephew, Jim Tomony; and a niece, Jennifer (Tom) Moore.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her special aunts, Grace Farley and Irma Smith (Oak Ridge, TN), Marion Mahar of Oswego, her long-time companion, Bill Fox, Sharon Trammell, and her "little sister," Patricia (Costello) Tom.

A special thank you to Debra Maloney for being a great caretaker to Peggy over the past year.

A Mass will be held at 10a.m. Friday August 10th at All Saints Church, located at 1340 Lancaster Ave, Syracuse with visitation at 9:30a.m. Interment will be made at St. Agnes Cemetery.
