Lynda Marie (Toth) Evans was named Lynda with a "Y" not an "I" by loving parents, as though it might bring good fortune into her life. If it did, it was a long time coming. Lynda was born and died with a disability she had to deal with her entire life. Although loved by her family, the world outside, was often cruel and unjust to her. She knew what it was like to be ignored, taken advantage of, and even abused. Her friends were often those snubbed and mistreated in life as well.
At age 21 she was asked to leave high school, but with the abilities of a skilled apparel pressor taught to her by her father (she learned in his laundry and dry-cleaning business), she set out in life. Lynda who knew what it was like to press clothes in the back rooms of 100-degree dry-cleaning establishments, with the only benefit being a fan, was never without a job. She never applied for disability, which she easily qualified for. In her early 30's, after extensive surgery and radiation treatments…she beat cancer.
In her late 30's, she met a man name John Evan's, fell in love, and was married. John was her first good fortune. He loved and treated her often like a queen it would seem. They never had any children, but always pets, of which both Lynda and John treated as children. They had cats and dogs and birds, which John hand made the cages for. Their delights in life were simple. An occasional motorcycle ride together on John's motorcycle, TV, and Lynda's weekly bingo night out.
Lynda's second good fortune occurred, twenty some years ago, when an elderly woman asked Lynda if she would want to go to church with her, which was right around the corner. Lynda accepted, and eventually, along with her weekly bingo, the church became her life. She hung pictures on her refrigerator their children drew for her and talked nonstop about everyone in church. Eventually she helped clean the little church (15-30 people), she took part in different women's groups, and attended services regularly. For maybe the first time in her life, other than her immediate family and John, someone else accepted her and treated her with love and respect. It wasn't long before she accepted and loved the same God they did, Jesus Christ, and was baptized in the church.
In the end Lynda Marie (Toth) Evan's did alright for herself. Lynda and John were married for 34 years; she passed away April 11, 2023, 3 and 1/2 weeks after John passed away….and today…. she is with the king.
Memorial contributions in Lynda's name, may be made to Bellwood Baptist Church, North Syracuse. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
