Lydia M. McGuire, 88, of North Syracuse passed away on November 18. She was born in Ansbach, Germany to Georg and Anna Fenn. She was educated in Germany where she met her husband, Willard who was stationed with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Ansbach. They married in St. Johannes Lutheran Church and then relocated to Ogdensbug, NY, Willard's hometown.
She was predeceased by her parents; her infant sister, Anna Marie; her beloved husband, Willard C. McGuire and her cherished first grandson, Jeffrey McGuire.
Lydia is survived by her children, Monica McGuire and her husband, Bruce Bailey, Michael (Colleen) McGuire, Mark (Marisa) McGuire; beloved grandchildren, Lauren (Alex Webb) McGuire, Christina (Paul Howden) McGuire and Nathaniel Bailey.
She was a lifelong member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church where she faithfully brought her children to church, catechism classes and youth group. She served in the nursery for many years.
When Lydia's children were young, she proudly became a naturalized American citizen. She also passed her German traditions to her children and grandchildren. Oma enjoyed cooking, baking and having delicious meals in her home. She loved visiting relatives in Germany. Having typical wanderlust, she enjoyed traveling. She cherished the friendships of other German women who took turns hosting Kaffeeklatches in their homes.
Lydia was a very hard working, industrious woman. Although she remained home to raise her children, she worked part time at the Snowflake Bakery and Ormond's, she worked fulltime at Hall & McChesney once all three children were in school. When she was widowed at a young age, she earned her real estate license.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, November 21st from 12-1 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, N. Syracuse, NY. Funeral services will begin at 1 PM at New Comer with Pastor Gail Wolling of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church officiating. Graveside services will follow immediately at White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt, NY.
