Lucy Akins, 77, of Liverpool passed away May 19, 2018. Lucy was born in Manhattan, New York on October 12, 1940 to the late Rudolph and Chaney Winslow. She attended the Jane Addams high school and studied nursing. Lucy worked as a practical nurse at Harlem Hospital; as well as, General Electric, and retired from Napa Auto parts where she was a collections manager. She was a philanthropist and enjoyed contributing to various charitable organizations. In her free time she loved gardening and tending to her roses. She was very good at crossword puzzles, enjoyed reading her bible, and listening to gospel music. Lucy loved her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Macklin; and brothers, Clifton, Joseph, and Tudor.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, David E. Akins; a daughter, Antoinette Golden-Akins (Kenneth); two sons, Rodney (Josette) Akins and Dwain (Sherry) Akins; grandchildren, Jacquelynn, Danyel, Wendell, Davon, Kenmara, Keasia, Vince, and Durell; great- grandchildren, Diamond, Dior, and Desmond; a sister, Odessa Brown and a brother Charles(Dorrette) Winslow; along with many loving sisters and brothers in law; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends may call on Saturday May 26, 2018 from 10am-12pm at Payton Memorial Temple, 1816 Midland Ave, Syracuse, NY with a Home Going service to follw at 12PM. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
