Lorraine S. Brooks

Lorraine S. Brooks, 74, of Liverpool, NY passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 18, 2023 at Crouse Irving Hospital. She was born on December 30, 1948 to Melvina C. Derby and Nelson A. Derby in Syracuse, NY. The sixth of nine children and a lifelong resident of Syracuse, Lorraine attended Syracuse Public Schools and pursued a career in Nursing after graduation. On October 4, 1967, she was united in holy matrimony with Mr. Eddie L. Brooks Jr. Lorraine and Eddie were blessed with five beautiful children, two girls and three boys. Lorraine worked as a nursing assistant for many years, eventually retiring from Hill Haven Nursing Home. She enjoyed playing slot machines at the Casino as well as knitting blankets for family and friends. Her favorite pastime was spending time with family and she loved being a grandmother.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Melvina and Nelson; her daughter, Tammy M. Brooks; her sons, Carlos D. Brooks, Heath E. Brooks; her sisters, Brenda Green, Debra Derby, Stephanie Shelton; and her brothers, Herbert Derby, Ralph Derby, Bruce Derby, Nelson F. Derby, and George B. Derby.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie; her daughter, Raytia Brooks;her son, Tito M. Brooks (Charisse); sister in law, Loretta Derby; and daughter in law Susan Brooks of Syracuse. She has several grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved dearly as well as several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Peoples AME Zion Church on Friday February, 24, 2023 from 11:00-12PM with a funeral service to follow at 12PM. A repast will be held immediately following the service at the Masonic Lodge, 175 West Brighton Ave, Syracuse.
