Lora "Poppy" Gillett Hawkes, 69, of Syracuse, passed away on Thursday after a long illness. She was born on March 29, 1945 to the late John and Mary Jane Gillett. Upon her parents death she was raised by her aunt and uncle, the late Doris and Ernie Crego.
She was a 1963 graduate of Skaneateles High School and she received her BA in Education from Wheelock College in Boston, MA. She was an administrator for the Head Start Program for several years. Her hobbies included golfing, bowling, reading and crossword puzzles.
Surviving are her 3 daughters: Sarah (David) Bartlett, Hannah (Eric) Preston, Heather (Philip) Davis, 2 sisters: Jan Gillett Brown, Dora "DeDe" Haefele, several grandchildren, 1 great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private. At the convenience of the family, a memorial will be held at a future date.
