Lois died at home while valiantly trying to recover from hip surgery.
Lois was born June 28, 1937 to Charles and Agnes Rollins in Kissimmee, Florida. She was a true southern belle! Sweet as pecan pie but also fierce as fire if need be.
When she offered up a "Bless your heart!" to people, only those who knew her would know which meaning she was offering. She grew up in Dade City, Florida. The youngest of 4 children. Her siblings Bill, Nina and Charles remained close throughout their lives. After graduation she married Bill Stevens and traveled with the Marines for the next 20 years. Finally settling back in Dade City, she grew her family which was the backbone and purpose of life for her.
As her children grew, she went to work with her father at Rollins Fruit Company in Zephyrhills, Florida. Everyone in the area, whether a local or a transplant, knew "Rollins". They'd come simply to talk to Lois and her father. Both so good natured, friendly and humorous, they could make friends in an instant. No one was a stranger. She never acquired great monetary wealth at this job, but found great wealth in life because she cherished her children, grandchildren and friends. She valued their love above all else. Raising kind, loving children was her gift to the world. She never ask for much or complained but instead found joy in the simplest of things. She'd quote Matthew 5:5 "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth." Her life was not easy. She suffered the unimaginable pain of losing a daughter Carol Ann at birth and losing a son David at age 49. Still, she never turned her back on Jesus. "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him". James 1:12.
Even late in life when times were the most difficult for her, she would smile when meeting people and they would comment how incredibly sweet she was still. Her daughter Susan and grandson Zachary had the privilege of sharing their home with her later in life when she needed help. This was taken on as a sense of responsibility, but ended up being one of our life's greatest blessings. We were honored to spend a great deal of time with her recently. We are sincerely thankful to everyone who helped make that possible! She is already, and will always be, deeply loved and missed. Our home is painfully quiet without her. "A heart that's broke is a heart that's been loved"
