Lois Esther Bailey, 93, of Sterling Presbyterian Manor, entered Heaven October 3.
Born December 6, 1919, Vestal, NY, she descend from Puritan Pilgrims arriving in Rhode Island, 1626 and from Major Richard Bailey of 1776 signer of the Rhode Island Declaration of Independence. Lois graduated from Cincinatus High School, Houghton College (BA), University of Wisconsin (MA History), and Syracuse University (MLS). She was a member of Beta Phi Mu.
She was an English/history teacher and librarian at Homer and Skaneateles High Schools, and Ohio Christian University. She lived in Auburn, NY, Circleville, OH, Bartlesville, OK, and late of Wesley Towers, Hutchinson, KS. She volunteered with Voice of the Martyrs, the Salvation Army and The Wesley Towers library. An early jet traveler, Lois visited 6 continents and many nations.
Without her own children, she took responsibility for distant relatives like a grandmother, aunt and sister. Her gentle influence through letters, visits and gifts endeared her to all as "Aunt Lois." She loved books, gardening, long walks, genealogy, opera, orchestral music and photography. She was a member of CCCU Church, Auburn, NY, and attender of First Church of the Nazarene, Hutchinson, KS.
She was preceded in death by Henry F. Bailey (father), Nellie (mother), Lillie (step-mother), brother Roland, sister Leah, and cousin Arvilla McKenzie.
She is survived by her cousins Charles and Roberta McCallum, and many other cousins.
Burial will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, October 14, Vestal Park Cemetery, Vestal, New York. In lieu of flowers, send gifts for Sierra Leone Bible College, West Africa by check made out to EVERGREEN CHURCH, 3429 240th Street SE, Bothell, WA 98021.
