Lis Chisling
September 21, 2015

Lis Chisling, formerly of North Syracuse NY, died peacefully after struggling with dementia for many years on September 21, 2015 in Palm Harbor, Florida. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, she was a war bride to USAF MSGT. Joseph Chisling, who had preceded her in death by many years. As part of the military life, she was able to enjoy living all over Europe, including Bitburg and Spangdahlem, Germany, where she volunteered in the military hospitals as a Gray Lady and attended many parties with other husbands and wives at the NCO Club; Athens, Greece, where she used to walk up the Acropolis and around the Parthenon; Fontainebleu, France, where her husband worked in the famous Fontainebleu Chateau as part of NATO. She would walk the gardens of the castle on Sundays with the family, feeding the carp French bread and went exploring Paris with her family at least once a month.

She lived a rich and interesting life, from having her father being a freedom fighter in the Danish underground during World War II, to watching him build the second largest trucking firm in Copenhagen from a little taxi cab company before the war, enabling her to go to a private school in Copenhagen. She lived through three hurricanes in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean while travelling from one continent to the other with her children in tow to meet up with her husband who had already transferred out to the new job, and never lost her footing or was seasick. She filled her married life with family visits in Denmark, traveling all over Europe to see and inhale the famous sights and history that was there. She became a leading real estate agent for Nasser Realty upon arriving in North Syracuse, and, finally, her crowning glory, what she was the proudest of, becoming a long standing School Board member on the North Syracuse School Board. When both her husband and her father died, she and her mother were on the cruising and snorkeling circuit, making memories and seeing the sights.

She is survived by her daughter, Lucie Chisling Winchell and her husband, David; her son, David Chisling; her grandchildren, Scott Chisling and his wife Trish, Bryan Winchell and Tiffany Winchell; her step-grandchildren, Tim Winchell, Jeffrey Winchell and his wife, Corinne, Michael Winchell and his wife Shelby; her great-grandchildren, Aaron Chisling and his wife Amanda, Brett Chisling, Kaden Winchell, Jade Chouinard, Jacob Chouinard; her step-great-grandchildren, Alex Winchell, Rhiannon Winchell, Luke Winchell, Madison Winchell, McKenna Winchell, A.J. Winchell, Savannah Winchell, and a great-great-granddaughter, Arya Chisling.

A memorial in her memory will be held at New Comer Funeral Home for those who wish to gather and reminisce and pay their respects on November 5, 2015 between 2-4 pm.Sharing of memories will take place at 4PM. Any contributions may be made to Dollars For Scholars, a foundation that she believed in and loved with all of her heart and soul.
