Linda Zappala Dennee, 62, of East Syracuse shot off to the stars to become the newest angel on July 2nd after a short battle with cancer. She retired in 2014 after 24 years as a special needs school bus driver for ESM District. She loved being outdoors, traveling and an occasional stop at a casino. She always held a special place in her heart for children and dogs (adults not so much).
She was predeceased by her parents, Julia (Stirusnik) and Myron Zappala; God daughter, Nanette Zappala Simmons and brother-in-law, Harry Smith.
She is survived by her wife and partner of 28 years, Diane Watkins; her children, Melanie (Scott) Casanova of Minoa, Jacob (Tara) Dennee of Elbridge, Kerri (Shannon) Martin of Syracuse and Ronald Watkins of East Syracuse; brothers, Myron (Barbara) Zappala of E. Syracuse, and Leonard (Sue) Zappala of N. Syracuse; sisters, Nancy Smith of E. Syracuse and Donna Zappala of E. Syracuse; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Connie) Benack of Kirkville and Brad (Rhonda) Benack of Bridgeport; granddaughters, Annabelle Casanova and Kyleigh Kinsella; great-granddaughter, Alaska Arnold; many nieces and nephews and her YFA, Helen Butler of Kirkville.
Calling hours will be private and a Celebration of Life will be held on July 18th 2-5pm at the VFW Post 9596, 6996 E. Taft Rd., E. Syracuse, NY 13057.
