Linda Foster, 83, of Liverpool passed away Friday, December 8th at Loretto, where she had been living after a fall at her home in May 2021.
Born Sept. 2, 1940, Linda attended Assumption Catholic Academy in Syracuse. She later studied at the University at Albany and at Syracuse University. As a young adult, she lived for a time in Alaska and Morristown, New Jersey before settling in Liverpool.
Linda was a life member and past president of NAVAC, and she continued administrative duties for NOVA even after retiring from a long career with the Onondaga County Child Protective Services. She was instrumental in starting the ambulance service for the Moyers Corners Fire Department.
For many years she was a member and officer of the Central New York Regional EMS Council. She taught CPR, first aid and advanced life support to many hundreds of EMTs and paramedics throughout Central New York.
Linda survived both breast and uterine cancer and prided herself on fierce independence. She was proud of her Italian heritage. She collected nativity scenes, enjoyed bargain hunting, was a big fan of diet Pepsi and the pastries at Biscotti, and she looked forward to spending time with a variety of friends.
She spoke often and lovingly of her children, by whom she is survived — James Foster, Jr. of Burke, Va. and Lorraine Kelly of Worchester, Mass. She is also survived by her cousin, Ed Weber, and several grandchildren.
Calling hours will take place from 4-6 pm on Monday, December 18th at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, N. Syracuse. A memorial mass will be held on December 19 at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 3494 Route 31, Baldwinsville.
Linda will be buried with her father, Kenneth Knoepfle at Assumption Cemetery, 2401 Court St., Syracuse immediately following Mass.
Linda loved colorful, mixed flowers as long as they were not red. Blue was her favorite color. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Deb Deuthorn Scholarship Fund, in care of the Central New York Community Foundation, 431 E. Fayette St., #100, Syracuse, NY 13202.
