Leroy Joseph Forbes

LeRoy Joseph Forbes succumbed to cancer on September 6, 2020 surrounded by family at home. He was born Feb. 29th, 1940 to Donald and Beulah Forbes in Syracuse, NY.
LeRoy attended Central High School, graduating in 1958. He married Karen Kingsley in December of 1959 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage during his illness.
He retired in 1993 after a 30 year career with the NY Army National Guard. He was the maintenance shop supervisor and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. LeRoy counted many of his co-workers as life long friends.
After retirement, LeRoy went into business as an independent garage owner until he retired a second time at the age of 75. During this time he was involved with Syracuse Midstate Youth Hockey, Royal Order of the Jesters, Liverpool Masonic Lodge #525 and the Liverpool Rod & Gun Club where he was the President for a number of years. They recently dedicated the clubhouse in his honor for his many years of service.
LeRoy was predeceased by his parents and a brother, John.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; 3 children, Kim (Peter) Erbland of Waleska, GA, Scott (Renee) Forbes of San Marcos, CA and Douglas (Colleen) Forbes of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Alec and Emilie Erbland, Kaitlyn Forbes and Meagan, Hannah and Madison Forbes; sisters-in-law, Dawn Daggett and Hauouida Forbes; along with, nieces and nephews.
As a leap year baby, all of LeRoy's grandchildren took great delight that all of them were older than him as of his last birthday.
A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Christ in Bayberry at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of CNY or to the United Church of Christ in Bayberry, 215 Blackberry Rd, Liverpool, NY 13090.
