Laura Larry Prince

Laura Larry Prince, age 78, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on August 13, 2020, in Syracuse, NY with her family by her side. Laura was born in Huntsville, Alabama on June 10, 1942, to Tommie and Annie Mae Larry.

Laura was an avid learner and promoted education within her family and students. She herself studied under the tutelage of professors at Alabama A&M University, DePaul University, and the Loyola University of Chicago; where she earned her Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and pursued her Educational Doctorate Degrees respectively.

A retired educator affiliated with the Chicago Teachers' Union, Mrs. Prince used her knowledge to impact the lives of middle school and high school-aged students. She inspired and encouraged many students through the creation and implementation of culinary career prep and home economics courses. A fashion-forward woman, she wore and encouraged the creation of the latest fashions by her students.

As an education justice advocate, she served in the Peace Corps in Jamaica, served on the Board for the St. Helena of the Cross Catholic Elementary School, and was a member of the Illinois Association for the Advancement of Blacks in Vocational Education.

A dedicated community member, Mrs. Prince founded and served as the President of the Cosmopolitan Chicago Chapter of the Alabama A&M University Alumni Association. She served as a member and Chairperson of the Archdiocese of Chicago Parish Pastoral Council, and as a member of the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy's Leadership Institute for Community Policing.

Loved and supported by her neighbors of over 40 years, she is survived by her daughter, Portia Prince Webster; son-in-law; Dean L. Webster and grandchildren, Samuel A. G. Prince, Najwa Y. Webster, and Dean L. Webster Jr. Oldest of ten children, she is survived by her siblings, Linda Sue Wilson (Wayne), Barbara Jean Jefferson, Ricky Darnell Larry, Constance Denise Larry, Tabitha Dervonna Larry, Tommy Larry Jr., Ronnie Lee Larry, Derrick Dale Larry, and their families. Mrs. Prince will be joining her sister, Marilyn Bonita Larry in the heavenlies.

Services will take place on Friday the 21st of August 2020 at 10:00 am at Northside Cemetery on 1715 Jordan Lane NW, Huntsville, AL 35816. If you plan to attend, please wear a mask.
