Laura Jo Tanyer, 58, of Clay, passed away from this earth on December 29, 2015. Laura was born in Milford, Delaware. She graduated from Laurel High School where she played basketball, field hockey and powder-puff football. Laura grew up as a member of the Children of the American Revolution, (C.A.R.), and was then also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), alongside her mother and grandmother. She was a foster mom to many children in CNY and in Colorado.
From dogs, cats, a skunk, birds, a pot bellied pig, turkeys, chickens, ducks, goats, and horses, she loved all animals. They were her pets to love and she truly care for them. She was an avid horse woman. Laura loved to ride and show horses. In Colorado, she founded Wishes Are Horses, a riding program for handicapped children. It was one of the first of its kind.
We are all truly God's children, and Laura was an excellent example of how God worked miracles in us. She survived many physical challenges, and thanked God daily for her blessings. She had just passed her 6 month anniversary marking her cessation of smoking. She thanked God for the strength to do that.
She loved her current dogs, Peaches and Patches, and so longed for her move to New Jersey to live with her son, James and his family. She loved Stephanie like her own daughter, and thrived to know every moment she could about her grandchildren, Christopher and Jeremy.
Laura's heart was huge. We will so miss her. We thank Jesus for his loving grace and for God blessing all of us with Laura Jo. May she be resting with you now, Lord.
She is predeceased by her mother, Margaret Tanyer.
She is survived by her son, James Albert (Stephanie) Burk; her Father, Albert L. Tanyer; her Brother, Albert Y. (Debra) Tanyer; her Sister, Rebecca N. (Ken) McPherson; two grandchildren, Christopher and Jeremy; a niece, Kaitlyn; nephews, David, John and Scott.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4-6PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. Services will follow at 6pm.
