She was a parishioner of St. Augustine's Church for over 30 years where she served as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Pastoral Visitor, Liturgy Committee, Social Action Committee, Sacristan, Faith Sharing Group Facilitator Trainer and Mentor to less-privileged youth at (St. Margaret's Parish). Laurie also trained EM's, Lectors and Altar Servers to serve her parish community and worked with them for special liturgies throughout the year. While a resident of O'Brien Road Apts, Laurie served as a pastoral visitor and offered Bingo, movie night and Wednesday luncheons and parties for the residents. She also volunteered at the Spiritual Renewal Center for several years in the library. Laurie served with the United States Coast Auxiliary Flotilla, Bridgeport, NY and enjoyed her work as an instructor of boating safety classes and providing weekend patrols saving lives and property. Her final job was as a care provider for the elderly and patient advocate for Seniors Helping Seniors.

Her parents, Charles and Genevieve Bataitis died in 1990 and 1994 respective. She is also predeceased by 3 of her sisters, Eileen Laure (James)(2000) and Barbara Liberty (Roger) (1984) and Kathleen Dukat (Stanley)(2016) as well as her brother Charles (Sally)(1972).
