Laura May Doolittle lost a painful and courageous battle against cancer on Feb 24, 2017. The light from one of God's great beacons was extinguished that day. Her life celebrated the love of the Lord and spread his word at every opportunity. She has touched countless lives for which we will be eternally grateful.
She leaves behind the love of her life, her husband of 55 years Earl Alexander Doolittle, her adored children: Brian Earl (Lisa), Daniel Scott (Pamela), Michael Alan, Michele Lee and her cherished grandchildren: Brian, James, Kevin, Cassandra, Nichole, Katherine, Kelsey, and Joseph.
She was predeceased by her parents Richard & Arline Pero and Daughter-in-law Deborah Call Doolittle. She also leaves behind six brothers & sisters and several nieces & nephews.
Words cannot express the great loss we feel without her love and guidance. She was a selfless soul who always placed others needs before hers. Laura was a faithful servant and emulated God's peace daily. Her smile was pure, her giving heart endless and she had an amazing knack to make you feel like you were the most important person in her earthly world. She loved unconditionally and served her maker until her last spoken breath.
Laura graduated from Tully High School in 1960, where after started attending college at Alfred State for accounting. January 6th, 1962 she married her high school conquest (he finally gave in). Soon after she started her family and was a devout mother to her four children. She was also employed at Nationwide Insurance, Cicero Elementary School tutoring for math and English and ultimately retired from North Syracuse Central School District after 20 years as a bus driver for special needs students with her best friend as her bus attendant, Mary Piquet.
She loved spending summers at the cottage with family and friends enjoying the daily breathtaking sunsets. She was a counselor and dean for summer programs at Camp Aldersgate and served as a deacon for the Methodist Church at the Crossroads for several years. She also participated in being a Cub Scout den mother and was active in many organizations pertaining to the growth and enrichment of her children.
Her door was always open and she was accepting of anyone who crossed her path. Many have heard of random acts of kindness and we, as a family, believe it all started with her. Laura lived her life as a random act of giving. She took every opportunity possible to give to others without boasting, bragging, or even being noticed. There are very few people that selflessly thought of others as she did. She will be missed beyond measure.
We would like to give special thanks to the Francis House for making Laura's transition to her Heavenly Father one filled with love and kindness.
