Kenneth Patrick Smith, 58, of Syracuse, New York passed away on July 2, 2022. Ken was born March 17,1964 in Syracuse and lived a life defined by service and care for those around him. He was proud of his career in the Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions where he worked as a Paratrooper, Cavalry Scout, Medic, and Combat Engineer, trained with the Special Forces, and served overseas in Germany. Despite his retirement due to a service-related disability, Ken was not one to be slowed down. He had an ever-growing list of projects not only for himself but for just about anyone who was lucky enough to know him. He was close with his mother Barbara and the two frequently enjoyed gardening and playing board games together before her passing. Ken was an imposing figure, but his gruff exterior was quickly betrayed by his kind heart and contagious laugh. He was known to have nursed more than one lost kitten back to health while wearing it in his shirt pocket. Ken will be missed by all who knew him.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Conny; children Emily (Sean) Spencer, Dan (Kim) Becker, Erin (Joe) Germinio, and Derek Becker; grandchildren Georgia, Elliot, Ivy, Austin, Landon, Bailey, Brianna, and Brittney; great-grandson Bentley; and siblings Bernadette (Rocky) Byers, Larry (JoAnne) Smith, Ray (Kelly) Smith, Chrissie (John) Walsh, and Ron Smith.
Services will be held at New Comer on July 12 from 4pm - 7pm with a graveside service the following morning at Veteran's Memorial Cemetery from 9am - 10am.
Attendees are invited to wear something green in honor of Ken's favorite color.
