Kelly James, 76, of Baldwinsville died Tuesday at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He retired from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department in 1991 following 25 years of service as a supervisor. "KJ James" was a nationally known Blues singer/guitarist travelling the college circuit. He was front man for "Triple Shot", a founding member of "The Kingsnakes" and "Dr. Blue and The Night Crew". Prior to Kelly's career in law enforcement and music, he was a professional football player with the NY Jets.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, the former Carol M. Hogan; daughters. Freda Brown of S. Carolina, Ann (Phil "Animal" Scavone) Dobroski and Jackie Lynn (Russell) Goodwin of Brewerton; sons, James of Canastota and Jason (Debra) Dobroski of Liverpool and Russell James of NYC; brother, LeRoy James of Denver, Co; five grandchildren, Rick Brown, Taylor and Megan Goodwin, Maggie and Kaylee Dobroski; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews;

Calling hours will be Sunday from 1-4 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. Services and burial will be private.
