Kathryn "Katie" Margaret Akers, 50, of Syracuse, formerly of Weedsport, died unexpectedly July 31, 2015. Katie was born December 24, 1964 (Christmas Eve) to Paul B. and Irene B. Akers.
Katie was predeceased by her father, who passed away in 1987.
Katie is survived by her mother, Irene B. Akers of Morrisville, NY; a brother, Daniel P. (Tracy) Akers of Morrisville, NY and a sister, Elizabeth A. (Paul) Farrell of Auburn, NY. Additionally, Katie is survived by 5 nieces and nephews, Joshua M. (Amber) Farrell, Jennifer M. Farrell, Jordan N. Farrell, Maximilian P. Akers and Clarissa J. Akers and 2 great nephews, Parker D. Farrell and Lincoln P. Farrell. Katie is also survived by one aunt, Mildred Glaze and several cousins.
In addition to her father, Katie was also predeceased by her maternal and paternal grandparents, an aunt and two uncles.
Katie attended Weedsport Central Schools and graduated from Nottingham High School in Syracuse. Katie graduated from Onondaga Community College and Columbia College and had attended Syracuse University. She had held jobs in the human services field.
Friends are invited to join the family on Sunday, August 9, 2015, for visitation, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the Weedsport 1st United Methodist Church, 2744 E. Brutus St., Weedsport, NY. A memorial service will immediately follow, at 3:00pm, at the church. The family asks that those attending wear purple in celebration of Katie's favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Weedsport 1st United Methodist Church or the CNY SPCA, 5878 East Molloy Rd., Syracuse, NY 13211 in Katie's memory.
